Pearl Joey Jordison Model 6x13 Steel Snare Drum
Loud & live & all the way from Baton Rouge, comes this highly modified Pearl JJ snare drum!
The second JJ I have owned and this one is a tank just like the first.
Heavy gauge steel, this drum will cut through any mix.
Brand-new Remo Ambassador P4 Powerstroke batter and brand-new Remo Emperor Resonant bottom heads. I put thicker heads on this drum to darken the sound. The Powerstroke is for heavy-hitters and/or those who need extra durability.
I took the strainer off as it was really dirty. Gave it a scrub and lube and now it works just fine.
When I took the drum apart, I discovered that I had tension rods of all sizes on this drum.
I took a set of RhythmTech Index Tension rods and put them on the batter side. The tuning will not slip. I made sure every lug had the same tension by using my Drum Dial.
For the bottom resonant snare side, I had enough rods to get that side matched except for one which is a little shorter than its brothers. Dialed that head in too.
This drum is very loud but surprisingly sensitive for a brute.
My first experience with maple hoops. They are beat to hell but solid and also quite heavy. Apparently, Mahoney wanted everybody to know that this was his snare drum so wrote his name of one of the hoops with a black sharpie.
If you have seen a JJ before, you know they have a custom etching on the shell. This one was also hand painted by somebody.
Puresound wires are top-notch but I recommend that they be replaced. This set is extremely worn.
Had fun working on it but it needs head out into the world and make noise.
