German drum building at it’s best. These thin Scandinavian Birch shells are extraordinary. Every aspect of the drum’s design, production and material is exceptional. But, you know that already...
This particular drum is factory original, except for the newly added Aquarian heads and one (of two) missing “snare guide” - one of the bars on the bottom head side. (The snare guides just serve to protect the wires from touching the snare stand when turning the snares “off” the head. The one remaining guide still sufficiently serves that purpose. See photos.)
This snare is in very good used condition, especially for it’s age. Absolutely no issues of concern with this fine instrument. Everything is fully functional. Snare strainer is very smooth and wires lay flat and adjust easily. The drum has been safely stored in an a/c studio when not being used for recordings or the occasional live performance.
Scrutinizer Note: Upon close inspection, you will find one 4” area of surface dings (tom rub) and a 3/4” scuff, in addition to a few miscellaneous tiny dings on the creme lacquer finish. Too, there are some scratches, nicks and lite weathering on the hardware’s hi-tech finish. Also, as with most vintage Sonors, the diameter measures slightly under 14” See pic’s.

This is obviously a great player’s drum. It’s rare. But, the price reflects the aforementioned missing miscellaneous snare guide and small blemishes. Still, it’s an incredible instrument that plays and records like a dream! Looks great, too! (I was fortunate to see Jack Dejohnette live at Berklee back in ‘87, when he was playing this model/color Sonor kit. Killed it then & still killing it now!)
